2014 Christmas Caravan & Outreach
The Christmas Caravan is an annual outreach event that provides basic necessities to homeless adults, and toys and other items as gifts for homeless and near-homeless children. The mission of the Caravan is to ensure that those without homes and those without adequate resources will have the opportunity to experience true joy in the celebration of the season.
This year, we are combining the Christmas Caravan with an Outreach Services event which involves volunteer organizations from throughout the community. These groups will provide homeless citizens of Central Arkansas with access to needed services and resources including medical and dental screenings, entitlement assistance and access to the Affordable Care Act services, legal advocacy, haircuts, and other services. If you are part of an organization that would like to participate in this part of the program, please register as a provider by clicking here or using the menu on the left.
The Caravan is made up of volunteers who bring automobiles loaded with clothing, hygiene supplies, and other donations and gifts. Led by Santa Claus, they travel parade-style to the distribution site. The participants are encouraged to decorate their vehicles and wear Christmas-themed clothing to create a festive atmosphere.
At the distribution site, clothing and other articles and gifts are given to those who have gathered to participate. Santa always has a busy morning spreading the holiday spirit! Basic needs are provided, breakfast is served to the homeless, toys are distributed to the children, and everyone involved has a wonderful and fulfilling morning.
The Caravan began in 2005 and has grown every year, blessed with volunteers from youth groups, churches, schools, social organizations, and social services agencies, as well as individuals and families. We are thankful for all of our volunteers and donors.
