NOON - CHRISTMAS CAROLING, HOT COCOA, AND HOLIDAY SNACKS
1 PM - SANTA CLAUS WILL LEAD IN THE CHRISTMAS CARAVAN FOR GIFT DISTRIBUTION
The Christmas Caravan is an annual outreach event that provides toys and other items as gifts for homeless and near-homeless children, and provides basic necessities to homeless and marginally housed adults. The mission of the Caravan is to ensure that those without homes and those without adequate resources will have the opportunity to experience true joy in the celebration of the season through the sharing and gift giving of our Christmas Caravan volunteers.
The Caravan is made up of volunteers who bring their automobiles loaded with donations and gifts they have collected such as toys, clothing, toiletries, sleeping bags, blankets, and food items. The automobiles will all gather offsite near Heifer International, then led by Santa Claus, they travel parade-style to the distribution site in the Clinton Presidential Center parking lot. The participants are encouraged to decorate their vehicles and wear Christmas-themed clothing to create a festive atmosphere. Remember that many of our participants do not have the opportunity to engage in Christmas celebrations, so our goal is to provide an opportunity for laughter and fun. When the Caravan arrives at the distribution site, clothing and other articles and gifts are given to those who have gathered to participate. Santa always has a busy time spreading the holiday spirit and distributing toys to the children! Everyone involved has a wonderful and fulfilling Christmas experience.
The Caravan began in 2005 and has grown every year, blessed with volunteers from youth groups, churches, schools, social organizations, and social services agencies, as well as individuals and families. We are thankful for all of our volunteers and donors.
